Do you remember when end pins were non-retractable? A wooden end pin with its fitting (plug) was carried in the case and when you sat down to play, you'd
put it in the hole at the base of the cello. It was a certain length, a little shorter than we're used to today. I'd guess these were used about the
turn of the 20th century, but when did they fall out of favor? Or, when did the retractable metal style become popular?
