I'd like to also say thank you to David Finckel for providing the various helpful insights that he has learned over the years in regards to the cello. My question is to all of you....What did you think of the following clip http://www.youtube.com/user/davidfinckelandwuhan#p/c/AE1ED06AB33DF65D/6/YvGHoRiqu0U where he shows how to clean the rosin off of the strings with what looks like a copper scouring pad. My first thought was what a brilliant idea. Very effective and much faster than just using a cloth, but then I started to wonder if using this copper scouring pad would wear down the strings faster and suffer a loss of tone, articulation, etc. Mr. Finckel has such vast experience, I feel that if it's okay for him to do it to his strings, it certainly should be okay with mine. But then again, he can probably afford to replace his strings much more often than what I can.

So how do all of you feel about it? Do you think it would wear down the strings too fast? Is there a better way to clean the rosin off of the strings? What is your preferred method?
