New CelloChatter Posts: 16 Mar 6 08 3:58 PM	Personally I would go the first way as I love the tubular endpin on my cello and dream of the Bois d'Harmonie tailpiece. That being said I have played only one cello with a carbon fibre endpin and it was not real stable at all and flexed a huge amount. Is this normal for a CF endpin?

Active CelloChatter Posts: 294 Mar 7 08 12:59 AM Active CelloChatter	If the sound is your main interest I would go for the Akusticus tailpiece, a Bois d'Harmonie tailcord, and a New Harmony carbon fibre endpin. The difference in sound between Akusticus and BdH is not big. The Bdh tailcord can however make a huge difference in response and power - at least for the bottom strings and in particular if you use synthetic or low tension strings. A carbon fibre endpin will probably free up the sound more than a titanium one. A titanium tube is stiffer than a solid carbon endpin though. So your choice in endpins would depend on your ability to handle a slightly flexing one. //Kjetil http://www.icello.nl

I've gotten to compare Akustikus vs. Bois D' Harmonie tailpieves on 2 cellos, and the Harmonie was a LOT better on both. This wasn't a definitive test of course - too small a sample size, but I've heard similar opinions from others. Ditto Cellopower's opinion on the tailcord - it does make a difference! I can't give you any strong opinions on the endpins - I don't think they make that big a difference, but I haven't tried very many of them. I use a 10mm carbon fiber one, FWIW. Steve -

Reticent CelloChatter Posts: 3925 Mar 7 08 9:09 AM Supporting CelloChatter	Go with the Bois D'Harmonie tailpiece and replace the endpin with a Bice carbon fiber one that you can buy and simply switch for the tubular one (assuming they are the same size.) You might ask what size the tubular endpin is and if it is removable.

Reticent CelloChatter Posts: 5186 Mar 8 08 6:37 PM Supporting CelloChatter	The endpin that came on my Jay-Haide Rugeri model cello is and Alberti: http://www.windstoneeditions.com/alberti-design/endpins.html It is absolutely stable, and if you look at the website illustration you will see that it has both a rubber and a sharp steel end. Both of these are positioned at such an angle to the tube/rod that they seem to avoid slipping on the floor surface. The website shows that it sells for $100. You would have to remove your standard endpin fitting/fixture to install one of these. Another worthwhile consideration, when considering installation of a Bois d'Harmonie tailpiece, is to install Pegheds, or Knilling Perfection Planetary Pegs, and a standard (bare-naked) wooden tailpiece with no fine tuners. It might be a bit cheaper. I kept my Bois d'Harmonie tailpieces on after installing Pegheds, because I don't want to tear down the cellos (AGAIN!! @@). A bare wooden tailpiece is about the same weight as a Bois d'Harmonie. Andy
