I am currently looking for better lower strings on my 2004 Westerlund cello- currently it has a Rostanvo A, D, G and a Permanent C. The A&D are the best they could be- however the G&C string diameter is on the thick side, which makes it a bit difficult playing repertoire like the Kodaly Sonata and Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante.
I was wondering if anybody had personal experience with the C&G of the EP Gold in comparison with the EP Soloist- Other string suggestions are welcome- I have previously tried Magnacore (stifles the cello due to high tension), Versum (too low of a tension and slow response), and Spirocore (G doesn't blend well, C is too rough and slow-ish response). I have heard previously that the Perpetuals are a solid choice (albeit with slow response in the high registers)- yet I don't know how they would compare with the Gold and Soloist without spending a ton of $$. My priorities are 1. Response, 2. Clarity, 3. Power so ideally strings with the quickest response and clarity are the objective here.
Any personal anecdotes, reviews, and suggestions are welcome!
