as cited in one of those articles are factors that I thought of when coming across the results of these double-blind tests. even the greatest string players aren't going to be able to wring the magic out of *any* instrument, new or old, that they just got handed. But I betcha if Elizabeth Pitcairn was behind a curtain and critical listeners had to A/B test her playing a great modern violin versus her Red Mendelssohn Strad, you'd likely hear more of a difference - she's been playing her Strad since she was a teenager and they certainly know each other well.
