I agree with batmanvcl's observations about the piece. I was at Orchestra Hall for the premiere performance (Thursday night) and wish I had purchased tickets for a second night as well. It has a great balance between cello and orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen's use of percussion and recorded sound was fascinating. But as mentioned, it's very demanding on the soloist and requires complex audio equipment which could hurt it's chances of becoming standard repertoire. Hopefully there will be a recording released and a third set of performances in the near future.
