Its an interesting thing with strings. There are many new strings coming out and having tried a few I find them usually good and its cheaper than a new cello. For the last few years (after buying some good binoculars) I have been checking out the string choices in orchestras and visiting soloists. Admittedly my sample is the Sydney Symphony and Australian Chamber Orchestra usually so not too large. I notice that most people, despite all the new strings out, still seem to use Larsen/Spirocore or Evah Pirazzi. The latter are slowly increasing in number in the SSO string section. Soloists might have something different but not so often. After a few years trying all sorts of strings (always the person using something weird) a friend gave me a one week old light larsen / spirocores set that he did not like. I put them on and my cello really quite likes them...
