Now that article involves all kinds of stats that are supposed to make us Liberals feel guilty that the poor are being short changed. And you are implying that
Liberals are also guilty along with the right for detrimental treatment of the poor. But listen whoever is poor would be so much worse off with a right wing
approach which began with Regan. The middle class is a lot poorer and the rich a lot richer. So the middle class cant give as much. Meanwhile the
wealthiest segment of American society was able to win all sorts of tax concessions. Bernanke said they privatized the profits and socialized the losses.

Actually, dennisw4 is right: I do have some angles in my body that are more than 90 degrees. It's a fair thing to consider motivation. "Why does someone with something resist the government giving the same something to others?" But the
flaw in Denniw4's thinking is that if I have health insurance and don't think it is the government's role to give health care to all that I am
uncaring and hypocritical. Of course this is nonsense. An effective emotional argument perhaps, but nonsense none the less. Am I also a hypocrit for thinking
that that the government shouldn't set the minimum wage at my salary? And further as to hypocricy, I have always been an advocate for a constructionist,
limited government, even when I was a "have-not."

The forgotten (and more important) half of that quote applies quite nicely to this subject. . Capitalism works well when, and only when, businesspeople act morally and out of a sense of the greater good of their country, not the greater good of their pocketbook. Obviously, the healthcare industry has been acting for the greater good of the latter for quite sometime, thereby causing capitalism, in this instance, to function like a four legged--hobbling about.When capitalism ceases its proper function in a vital case, such as healthcare, should our government honestly leave something as important as our lives up to the interests of someone's pocketbook all for the sake of that system that has proved itself decrepit, capitalism? Probably closer to 1 cent than two... |

Healthcare/wealthcare industry operated as non profits for the longest time. Before 93 when Hillary's health care legislation was defeated. Now they
only want to insure people who are unlikely to ever need services. Monopolies like power are subject to a rate commission review. They also enjoy a monopoly
exemption like baseball.
