The cello itself
The cello is elegant, and the finish is almost perfect. I've spotted only a few very tiny imperfections that are practically invisible. The overall quality is very high. The fingerboard is from Flexwood- wood composite very similar to ebony, unaffected by humidity and temperature. It even feels and looks like ebony, but you can spot the difference. I have the design line so you can see the carbon fiber. Its very beautiful, the pattern looks amazing under the sun. When the cello came, the soundpost was not properly setup. I think it must have moved wlduring the delivery. I put it to correct position with a friend of mine and cello begun sing. It has very strong voice, my classmates say the cello feels like it plays itself. I would describe the color of sound as bright, very open, with high amount of clarity, and medicore warmth. The cello came with Kaplan strings, which are quite good but they dont have the beautiful full rich bass like the spirocore Bel Canto(with tungsten wound). In terms of volume, I dont think I played a louder cello. Today I was in a concert hall and tried different cellos with friends and I noticed couple of things. The projection is huge, also the sound caries very well - it almost dont lose volume - you can feel full sound even 15-20 meters away.
When I practice at home they say that when I play with closed doors to my room, its like when I played my old cello but with open doors...
Overall I'm very happy with it. It looks stunning, playability is very good, it has an powerfull voice. One my teacher said it has a different sound than wooden cellos and I agree with it. But I dont see it as a drawback. Its almost identical and I doubt anyone except well trained musician could say just by the ear that its not wooden instrument. At my school, the head professor is very opposed by carbon fiber instruments - when she saw it, she said I've made a mistake. Today I played the sarabande and gigue from Bach's 2nd suite. After the performance she came to me and said that is sounds actually good.
If you have any questions, please ask, I will try to answer them. In a meanwhile I will post some audio samples once I will have time to record it.
